Orientations are held monthly at our Midvale Family Center (529 West 9th Avenue, about 7300 South). Please check our website for the next orientation, or email volunteer@theroadhome.org if you have any questions. Playgroup with the Littles • Play games, coordinate learning activities, facilitate arts and crafts. For children that are 2-5 years old. • Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 1:45 to 3:15 PM • Must be 16 years old or older • Weekly, one-hour commitment for a minimum of 3 months Book Club The goal of this program is to help children, ages 5-12 years old, become interested in reading. Volunteers start by reading with 1-2 children, then there is a group read, followed by a related art activity and/or snack. • Mondays, 7:00-8:00 PM • Must be 16 years old or older • Weekly, one-hour commitment for a minimum of 3 months Playroom Play games, coordinate learning activities, facilitate arts and crafts, be a mentor to the children who live in our shelter. For children who are 5-12 years old. • Tuesdays, 7:00-8:00 PM • Must be 16 years old or older • Weekly, one-hour commitment for a minimum of 3 months Teen Night Out Volunteers plan and carry out special activities geared to our teen (13-17 years old) residents. Activities generally are off shelter grounds, and there may be a fee associated. • Wednesdays, 6:30-9:00 PM (approx.) • Must be 18 years old or older • Weekly, one-hour commitment for a minimum of 3 months Looking for a group activity? Below are some opportunities that are a perfect way for groups to get involved but don’t require an ongoing commitment. Prepare a Dinner 1. Prepare a meal 2. Bring it to the Shelter 3. Serve it to the residents! Sack Lunches Provide sack lunches for children staying at the shelter. Needs start at 90 sack lunches per day and are needed at Midvale Center. Please contact a Volunteer Coordinator to schedule your donation. Donation Drive There is a continuous need in the shelter for donated items. We also have a list of Service Project Ideas that include putting together Move-In Kits for residents moving into a new home. Holiday Project Interested in putting together Easter baskets in the Spring, collecting new toys around Christmas or art kits for the kids during the summer? Email us and we can let you know the seasonal projects we need help with. Kids Activity The playroom is available in the evening Wednesday-Friday from 7:00-8:00 PM to schedule for group activities with the children. In the past, groups have decorated cookies, brought in craft projects, made presents to give their families during holidays, and much more! Warehouse The warehouse gets packed with donation from the community daily! Volunteers are needed at our Midvale Family Center and Downtown Salt Lake City shelter to help sort and organize those donations. • Opportunities available everyday • Must be 16 years old or older • Individuals or groups (no more than 6 volunteers per group) • Minimum two hour commitments
