Salvation Army of Tyler Texas

The Salvation Army in Tyler is the only residential shelter in the area that serves both men, women, and children; we also operate both an emergency shelter and a transitional living shelter and programs. All residents of either program are able to receive hot meals to feed their bellies, to wash their clothes for safety and health, to sleep soundly in safety, and to receive counseling and spiritual guidance.

Emergency Housing
Emergency housing is available for those who wish to only stay 1-5 nights in our shelter. Those who are passing through town, those who have temporary housing problems due to a disaster, and those who prefer to be homeless but are forced indoors by heat, cold, or bad weather seek refuge in our shelter. These residents are not required to participate in a work program or enter our transitional shelter. They are however, encouraged to consider if they would like to be a part of our larger community while developing their own self-sufficiency abilities.

Transitional Housing
Individuals and families that find themselves homeless but are eager to find their way again enter our transitional housing program, which includes a work component. The H.E.L.P. (Holistic Employment and Life-skills Placement) Program, a 90-120 day work program, empowers our residents. Counseling services, transportation, recreational activities, spiritual guidance, hot meals, clean clothes, and more await those who enter into this program to build their life back, one block at a time. Obtaining and maintaining employment, building savings, receiving physical and mental health services, and more are the services provided and steps taken to provide these residents a hand up and not a hand out.

If you have stayed in this shelter, how was your stay?

User Answers

  1. The man that works maintenance is running around 2 or 3 in the morning telling people he is a police. When he is not justified to have any thing to do with someone is not causing a problem or doing any thing illegal.

  2. Wasnt much of a stay. After they know they have the grant money to house you, they will find the slightest reason to kick you out. Definitely not what they used to be.

  4. I think that this place is the best. I stayed here and they treated me like I was a king. They are the most kindest , caring people I've ever met. It's like your family as soon as you walk through the front door. But they are serious about there rules and will keep on track. Loved everything about it.

  5. It was OK, food was OK, just have to follow the rules and it'll be worth while. I stayed there 3 months in 2022 now I'm in Arlington just graduated hvac school so in reality this place was actually a blessing for me it made me humble after seeing how others lived when I thought I had it bad.

As far as the Salvation army in tyler Texas goes. The staff here is so wonderfull. They will help any and all those who want it and need it. Its. A really great place to get a restart on your life. The poeple who come through here are great woman and men with great understanding and respect to one another. Rather in the rehab part or just passing through. We all help one another lift ourselfs back up so we can move foreword in life. But if you come here thinking your going to a great meal or eat good think again because for some reason the kitchen help here think that a person can live off a cup of soup or a meal that is only enough for a small small child. Some I'm sending this review in name withheld because i still stay here. But i want to say we are grown men and woman who work hard or look for work all day and we deserve at least a full meal after returning back here.
