We provide shelter and safety for victims, their children, and pets. We operate emergency shelters to help and house survivors immediately following their escape from abuse and transitional shelters to provide survivors longer-term support while they look for permanent housing.
Our PALS (People and Animals Living Safely) program--the only program in New York City and one of the few nationally--allows survivors to co-shelter with their pets.

We help victims heal. Our counselors and social workers meet with clients one-on-one and in group settings to help them recover from emotional and physical trauma, build their confidence, and begin to envision a future that they control.

We foster stability and independence. URIs specialized programs provide survivors with the foundation they need to become self-sufficient and independent. We work with clients to find permanent housing; provide job-skills training; professional development opportunities; financial literacy education; and legal assistance to help resolve issues such as custody, immigration issues, and orders of protection.

Not the safe haven as described , i was in their Bronx location at 182nd street .one night the police were investigating a crime and the police lights drew my attention i called the front office and staff had no idea that any thing was happening even though the police lights were shining through URI front doors I requested an answer as to how that could happen with staff always at the front door . As reprisal URI shortened my stay from the promised 6mo to 3mo which is signed for .URI gave me three days to gather my belongings which included the weekend I was forced out and had to give up my emotional support pet immediately , as well as discharging me chronic kidney failure . During my stay the housing personel did nothing to prepare me for regular housing as promised during my intake . The Staff from the director on down were noncaring and phoney
