Supportive Housing
Supportive housing pairs affordable housing with comprehensive on-site supportive services. It is an evidence-based approach that has been shown to be effective in improving housing stability, especially for chronically homeless individuals, as well as employment status and mental and physical health.
Supportive housing has also proven to be cost effective, as it reduces utilization of emergency rooms, hospitals, shelters, psychiatric facilities, and prisons.
NCS operates the following supportive housing facilities:
Louis Nine House
Louis Nine House, located in the Bronx, has 46 studio apartments for young adults who are homeless or have aged out of foster care.
The NCS Residence
The NCS Residence, a long-term, supportive housing facility on East 81st Street in Manhattan, houses 65 formerly homeless men and women, the majority of whom are mentally ill and have been chronically homeless.
In addition to supportive housing, NCS offers a range of programs that assist individuals on the path to independent living through counseling and treatment, educational and vocational services, job placement, and crisis intervention. NCSs 35 years of experience helps us to better understand the root causes of homelessness, improve service delivery, and advance our mission to reduce, prevent and ultimately end homelessness.
