Family Shelter. Very small. Shelter up to 4 families at a time. Call before going to shelter.
We can provide shelter for up to four families at a time in the Interfaith Hospitality Network. We provide the shelter by partnering with 24 congregations around Albuquerque. These congregations of different faiths convert classrooms into bedrooms for one week at a time. All four families stay at the same congregation and move to a new congregation every Sunday.
Family Promise of Albuquerque provides beds that volunteers move every week. Volunteers at the congregations provide guests with nurturing and a sense of community. They provide homemade meals and sit down with the guests for family-style dinners. They help children with homework and also tutor parents when needed. They provide activities in the evenings and on weekends and they stay overnight to ensure safety.
In the mornings, they drop all of the children at school and bring parents who do not have jobs to the day center where the parents spend every weekday morning with tutors, attending skill-building classes and applying for jobs. Case management also is provided to help families connect with resources.
