Carolina Hill is an emergency shelter for homeless families. The facility houses up to 17 families at the time and they remain at Carolina Hill an average of three months. The Carolina Hill shelter has a fenced yard, a recreation building for young children and a fully-equipped classroom for adult education classes. Families whose members may have special needs (e.g., developmentally disabled or handicapped) can be accommodated.
Programs Offered:
Training: Basic life skills such as money management, parenting, nutrition, as well as how to look for and access community resources. Upon completion of this program, individuals will get a certificate of "housing readiness"Case ManagementHousing searchGED and ESL classesSome of the individuals that end up staying at Carolina Hill are escaping situations such as: domestic violence or recovering from substance abuse. Carolina Hill committed staff refer these individuals to outside agencies and services that provide assistance such as: childcare, individual, group and family counseling, community support, domestic violence programs, furniture programs, substance abuse programs, day programs and more. Follow up services are also offered after families are placed in a new home with the main purpose of ensuring their smooth transition into local schools and social services.
