This shelter is fairly tidy, and spacious. The biggest downside is the STAFF, who are a group of very demanding, unhappy older women. The initial phone call is a "Make believe", false sense of caring and that's what they reel you in with. Usually around day 3-7 the entire production takes a turn and the staff start to treat all of domestic violence victims as if they are in a rehab facility or a jail. They absolutely enjoy nit picking these women apart. They bully the victims and see them as being "below" them. They call the victims "Clients" as they are on the "crisis call" with them which is the term used when a woman reaches out for help and services at Bethany House. The women take u in and go over everything when you first get there. This is what we call the honeymoon phase where they pretend to be soft-spoken caring supportive women against violence and abuse. Unfortunately this is the pattern of behavior they repeat each and every. Once you're in you get no emotion or compassion from ANYONE on the Staff. They are the rudest people I have ever met. We as VICTIMS come to a "Safe" place to be protected and get the self esteem, self confidence, self worth and Independence back as they were stripped away by our abuser. The councilor, who is one of the most judgmental people I have ever displeasure of meeting, harrassed, ridiculed, and fed off of the vonerability of every victim, AND CHILD there. The lady is snobbish and exhibits her overly controling personality, daily. The constant ridicule eats up the self worth that we have regained since leaving our abuser. My therapist that I have had for the past year and a half, is disgusted by the way myself and the other women there have been treated. Not to mention the children we bring with us. There is a national pandemic attacking our population right now and the under qualified, cold hearted women at this shelter are rude, and they sit back watching your every move on the cameras, ready to jump on your case and tell you how wrong you are at everything you do. This is a place that employes a self absorbed "councilor" who yelled at my 9 yr old son for eating a PEACH that one of the other ladies had given him to eat. This not only made my son cry and scare him, the 55yr old lady who adored my son and offered him the peach broke down in tears and anger, she held the guilt of causing him to cry because of her action to give a child a piece of fruit. After constant ridicule and harassment, we were asked to leave. Single mother and her 9 yr old put out onto the streets during a deadly pandemic because we stood up for ourselves, and they can't have any of that there. Pathetic.

The staff has clearly had no sensitivity training and are verbally abusive to their “clients”. During my stay at the Bethany House I felt like I was in jail. They have lots of over bearing rules. The second you stand up for yourself against the abuse you are told to leave if you don’t like their rules. They use cameras to watch your every move. They treat you like you are a child. They tell you what to and when to do it. You basically are leaving your abuser to go there and be abused by them. Also, they care more about how clean their damn place is then they do about the clients. While staying there I worked a 13 hour shift then when I got on I was asked to mop 2 sections of the floor. Wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone.
