The LUM Emergency Shelter provides short-term, overnight shelter, meals, and showers in a safe and caring environment to homeless individuals. The LUM Emergency Shelter may accommodate up to 44 adults each night of the year.

The LUM Winter Warming Station complements the services of the LUM Emergency Shelter from November to April. Other contingencies plans are in place during stormy weather or if temperatures get dangerously low.

Other Services:
Get an ID: Help in getting a valid ID card (Indiana identification) and/or birth certificate.

How to Use the ID Clinic:
    Meet with LUM staff during Drop-in hours:

Must sign in by 11:15 a.m.

    The service is free, but the entire process may take a few weeks to complete

    Tippecanoe County residents
What you should bring with you:
    Information: names of birth parents, city & state of where you were born, name of schools you attended and years of enrollment
    Birth certificate, if available
    Social Security card, if available

Emergency Financial Assistance
    Funds:
    For family emergencies such as
        Utilities (gas, electric, water) help with fees, re-connection or deposit
        Rent/Mortgage payment
        Medical Prescription medication, HIP premium payment, physical exam or TB test required for new job
        Work-related clothing shoes & clothes required for a new job
        Clothing (general use) clothing vouchers are available from time to time
        GED test fee
Amounts:
Generally less than $50; decisions are made on a case-by-case basis
There is also a total amount allowed per household per year
How often:
Not more than every 30 days or until your household annual limit is reached
Generally do not help with the same bill more than once
    Referrals to other assistance programs
    NO funds for doctor bills, car repairs, gasoline for cars, bus tokens, court or legal fees, bills not yet past due, bills too large

    Names & birth-dates of all adults & children in your household

            Current Disconnect notice
            Your Current Bill from the Utility company

            Copy of your Current Lease or Bank Payment Book
            Rent Receipt or a Letter from your Landlord
        Medical
            Prescription Name & phone number of your Pharmacy

Tags Donations Needed: Emergency Shelter Wishlist * Paper Supplies — Toilet Paper, Paper Towels, Paper napkins, Facial Tissues (Kleenex), Paper plates, Disposable cups * Cleaning Supplies — Disinfectant Spray (Lysol), All Purpose Cleaner (Fabuloso), Bleach (Clorox), Laundry Detergent, Dishwashing Liquid, Dishwasher Detergent, Trash bags (13 gallon/tall kitchen draw-string) * Medical supplies — Band-Aids, Ibuprofen, Aspirin, Acetaminophen, Gauze pads, Neosporin, First Aid Antiseptic Spray * Personal Care — Toothbrushes, Toothpaste, Tampons, Sanitary napkins, Foot powder, Disposable Razors, Combs, Nail Clippers, Pocket facial tissues, Liquid Hand Soap, Disinfecting Wipes (Clorox ), Hand sanitizer * Food items — Peanut butter, Snack Bars (Granola Bars, Fruit Bars, Breakfast Bars, Cereal Bars, Rice Krispies Treats), Hot Cocoa – powdered mix, Bottled water * Coffee Set Up — Coffee (Caffeinated), Coffee filters, Sweetener packets (sugar, Splenda, Sweet’N Low, Equal), Powdered Creamer * Clothing — Socks; Underwear; Winter gloves, hats, socks, scarves (men’s & women’s) * Bus passes Volunteers Needed: VOLUNTEER JOB TITLE: Overnight Volunteer – LUM Emergency Shelter DAYS/HOURS: 8:00 p.m. – Midnight; or 8:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m. Every evening (365 days a year) JOB DESCRIPTION: Three volunteers and one staff member are scheduled nightly. Each volunteer will be assigned various duties including but not limited to the following: * Check-in Desk * Kitchen (serve food) * Hall & Bath (distribute towels, soaps, shampoo, etc.) * Assistance at the Winter Warming Station Lights are out for guests at 10:30 p.m. After lights out, the three volunteers divide up the duties. Wake-up for the guest is 6:00 a.m. sharp. A breakfast snack is distributed and all guests are gone by 7:00 a.m. REQUIREMENTS: Must be at least 18 years old. Training is provided. Volunteers must attend a Shelter Training Session. These sessions are held every Monday night. See schedule below.
