Sarahs Circles primary goal is to end homelessness for unaccompanied adult women in Chicago. We strive for and achieve excellence in each of our programs by utilizing an approach and philosophy guided by best practices and outstanding leadership. To support this, our programs utilize the Housing First model, have no barriers, and use a trauma-informed approach. We also provide case management and supportive services to assist each woman in her journey. Sarahs Circle has three primary programs:
Daytime Support Center
The Daytime Support Center is a comprehensive drop-in center available to any woman in need Monday - Friday. Here, we provide a safe space, shelter from extreme weather, services to meet basic needs, educational and general interest programming, as well as case management. Basic need services include two meals a day, computers, phones, showers, laundry, free hygiene products, and lockers. Case managers assist women to address barriers to finding housing, implement strategies to extend their income, and find permanent housing. The Daytime Support Center is much more than a facility and services; its a vibrant community of women who have created lasting friendships and a supportive, healing environment. This community is a critical aspect of our success, as it fosters an increased sense of well-being and, once a woman is housed, helps ensure housing retention.
Interim Housing
The Interim Housing Program is a 50-bed shelter, providing a safe space, basic needs, and supportive services for any woman experiencing homelessness. This program has no barriers and accepts any unaccompanied woman. Our Interim Housing Program is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. We serve three meals a day in addition to helping women meet all their other basic needs. Each woman works closely with a case manager to identify goals and strive to meet them. Securing permanent housing for each woman is the primary goal. Improving overall well-being and increasing self-sufficiency as quickly as possible are other common goals. Like our other programs, we foster a community of support, as it strengthens a womans likelihood of success.
Permanent Supportive Housing
The Permanent Supportive Housing Program provides 30 units of affordable housing to women who have been chronically homeless. Residents are identified through Chicagos coordinated entry system, ensuring that the most vulnerable women are given housing first. Notably, some women were homeless for over a decade before finding a home with Sarahs Circle. Each woman works closely with a case manager to identify and develop a plan to meet her individualized needs. This housing model improves outcomes for the most difficult to serve individuals and helps reduce public costs associated with emergency room and shelter use.
