Shelter House is a non-profit center serving domestic and sexual violence victims and survivors in Okaloosa and Walton counties. The supportive, non-judgmental environment at Shelter House works to make every survivor feel safe, empowered and confident. Domestic and sexual violence cross all age, racial, ethnic, nation-orientation, sexual, gender preference, spiritual and socioeconomic boundaries. All services provided by Shelter House are free and confidential for victims and include a 24-hour hotline, crisis counseling, advocacy, outreach, primary prevention, transitional housing, confidential shelter and supportive services for family members of sexual violence victims.

Volunteers Needed: The Shelter House Volunteer Program is dynamic and multi-faceted. As a volunteer you, you can donate your time and talents in many ways. Our Volunteer Coordinator trains and provides in-service informational meetings to members of the community who wish to volunteer with Shelter House. Bi-annual orientations for new volunteers are held to provide an overview of the agency. You can sign up for our monthly volunteer e-newsletter to get updates on all upcoming events and volunteer opportunities.
Volunteers that wish to work closely with participants or work on the 24-hour Crisis Hotline are required to attend a 30-hour Core Competency Training. This is a 24-hour class (three full days) in addition to six hours of observation. See calendar (link) for upcoming Core Competency Trainings scheduled. For those not interested in direct services, opportunities include sorting through donations and cell phones, collecting cell phones in the community, promoting and working events and fundraisers, handing out brochures and flyers, picking up donations, joining the Marketing Committee or Prevention Committee, assisting with administrative duties and much more.
