So I had the unfortunate experience to spend a few days at the mission in citrus county homeless shelter. The woman running the place doesn't leave her little apartment except to do completely pointless meetings at 630 am and speed thru her 30 second prayer. Her minions as I called them are really the ones running the place. One of the first things I was told when I got there was to mind my business. That's advice much better taken by the person who gave it out. I really felt bad for the people there who had no other options. Shelters are supposed to be temporary, not a permanent solution. But some of the women there had no desire, determination, ambition to change their situation. Why should they when they had the run of the place, free food that they hoarded from donations. There was a place for community food but the area smelled so badly of cat pee it was hard to breathe. Someone should really try to set some guidelines or rules for this place. Get some services in there to help people find permanent housing or jobs or other resources. My advice for anyone who does end up here is to do anything you can to get out as fast as possible. It's an extremely toxic environment where no one can thrive.
