Catholic Worker Community

Address
316 South Cypress Avenue
Santa Ana, CA - 92701

We serve about 2100 hot meals each week, and we provide food to other soup kitchens through Isaiah House. We provide hospitality to homeless women and children when the Armory is closed. Volunteers are welcome Sunday mornings and every day at 4:30PM. Call us to see if you're needed: sometimes we have too many helpers! Thank God.

If you have stayed in this shelter, how was your stay?

User Answers

  1. I lived in Isaiah House for 2 and a half years. It was a sanctuary for me, and many of the women that stayed there. I was fortunate enough to become intergrated into the workings of the House by helping in the kitchen and around the house. Leia and Dwight Smith are fantastic, caring, compassionated, generous, and loving who made me feel like a person. I loved staying there and helping others that were in the same situation as me. It saddened me when I left, this place had become a home for me full of caring and loving people, but, I realized it was only temporary and I had to move on with my life. I am now living in North Carolina, am a grandmother to 15 grandchildren, just became a great grandmother to a 2nd greatgrandson, this past June 6, and expecting a 3rd greatgrandson in November, 2021. I will always treasure my memories of Isaiah House and all those that God put into my life.

  3. I stayed there for a few months with my son way back in 2002. Dwight and his wife Leia were ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE! They would give you the shirts of their backs if needed tbh. Met alot of nice people there for the short time I stayed there. Never had any issues there and always felt safe there. I'm glad that place is still helping people to this day. True blessing!

Do they accept pets at this shelter?

User Answers

  1. I don't know if they still do, but, Isaiah House sometimes fostered abandoned animals until a home could be found, especially when the local animal shelter was full.

Do you have any advice for those wanting to stay at this shelter?

User Answers

  1. If you're fortunate to stay there, treat it as if it were your own and take care of it and help others also. Mostly, show respect for others

How long can you stay here?

User Answers

  1. I'm not aware of how things are now, but, some ladies that did not have families, stayed an indeterminate time. You're not asked to leave unless you do something that can be harmful to yourself or others. There are certain rules that have to be followed, and it's really not to much to ask, but, if ot followed or broken, then you are asked to leave.
