Do you have any advice for those wanting to stay at this shelter?

User Answers

  1. Ask for things, tell them your needs & your situation, plans etc. Inquire about avail housing, living, transportation, healthcare support, etc. Because Sometime information doesn't get disseminated to everyone so you have to be proactive in asking ehats new, etc so you don't miss out in helpful opportunities. Also program could hold regular sessions that guide the residents ehat documents, IDs, & any documentation needed to aquire services, have social agencies do informational seminars that provide forms, etc. so residents can prepare & be successful.

How long can you stay here?

User Answers

  1. I've seen & experienced 3-6 months stays BUT when your time is up you're given 24hrs average to prepare to leave. You don't know where you may be transferred to & that could uproot all the progress you've made. Sometimes your being released to the street vs referred to another facility. That keeps patient tenants in a state of fear, anxiety & the like. It depends on what your profile is. It truly can be disheartening & there's that feeling of abandonment, no one cares, closed hardheartedness to your plight & some folk just resign to go back to the streets cause they are worn out, disabled & don't have the mental, spiritual, physical will to fight and press on against a system that at its best has kicked you to the curve because of the bureaucracy.

  2. 1 month is typical, longer is allowed so long as you are setting goals and making progress and kindly participating

Terrible as they have been infested with bed bugs for months! My sister has been bitten hundreds of times over a two month period. Her eyelids have swollen shut and she has had to go to the emergency room for treatment. I spoke with the CC Health, Housing and Homeless services who had Terminix come out and spray twice. The switch plates and baseboards were removed and hundreds of bugs were behind them! Just yesterday my sister was bitten over 50 times!! She recently started working and the bites are interfering. How is this acceptable.
