Mary Ellens Hearth at Nellie Burge combats homelessness by providing transitional housing for homeless women with children. More than simply providing a place to live, our programs and services empower families to stabilize their lives, build new skills, decrease their dependency on emergency services and keep their families united and safe.

Transitional Housing Program/Shelter Operating Hours: The facility is open to families on a 24 hour basis.

Toilet Brush Volunteers Needed: Volunteers are needed:
1. Adult volunteers are needed to lead workshops
2. Small groups to host a monthly birthday party on the last Wednesday of every month between 4pm-6pm.
3. Groups to plan and host weekend gatherings or weeknight game nights.
4. Front desk....The hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm. Volunteers will provide clerical support such as answering phones, greeting visitors, filing, photocopying, scan and electronically file documents.
5. Individuals or small groups are needed to sort, and store a wide variety of donations, including clothing, toiletries, and household items.
6. Development Department is seeking a volunteer to serve two days per week. The volunteer will assist with annual special events and will also help with administrative tasks, research and one-time projects.
7. Assist us in helping clients feel proud of where they live and receive services. Volunteer are needed to help with gardening, housekeeping, and other beautification projects. Someone with a green thumb or a small group of people can help to make site a beautiful place to visit or live. MEH is looking for regular groups to help with seasonal upkeep as well as with one-time projects. Volunteers would assist with, gardening, housekeeping, organizing, etc. – a great opportunity for groups. Weekday and weekend opportunities are available.
8. Volunteers are needed to help the children through tutoring, mentoring, special events and more.
