We Work For A Pennsylvania In Which All Residents, Regardless Of Income, Have Access To Enough Nutritious Food For A Healthy And Active Life Without The Need To Seek Charitable Food Donations From Emergency Food Providers. During The Late 1990s, Pennsylvania Was A National Leader In Preventing Hunger With One Of The Lowest Rates Of Food Insecurity (8.3 Percent) In America. Since 2001, However, Pennsylvania Has Begun To Lose Ground In The Fight Against Hunger. The Latest U.S. Government Data Describes 10 Percent Of Households At Risk (Nearly One-Third Of Those Households Also Experience Hunger). Hunger Action'S Own Statewide Survey Of Food Pantries Over That Period Of Time Shows A 27 Percent Increase In Need For Charitable Food For Needy Families. Reversing This Recent Trend Requires Renewed Public Commitment To Economic Opportunity And Well-Funded Nutrition Support Programs.
