We aim, through a faith-based community effort of prevention and support services, to build self-sufficiency and end hunger and homelessness for families and individuals in need.
Pathways of Hope operates a resource center, recently renamed HUB of Hope, which offers emergency food and hygiene items to homeless and low-income families and individuals in Orange County. In 2015, Pathways of Hope adopted a Client Choice Model of food distribution, wherein clients are able to select the food items that best fit their households needs, instead of receiving a standardized bag of food. Pathways of Hopes volunteers assist with food rescue from several local grocery stores, allowing us to provide fresh produce and dairy products along with non-perishable goods.
About 80% of the people who visit the HUB for food and hygiene items are not homeless, but they are struggling to make ends meet. The ability to receive food and other resources from the HUB allows them to afford to pay for other expenses, and prevents them from becoming homeless.
We recently expanded the supportive services available at HUB of Hope and now offer career counseling, nutrition and life skills classes, ID referral services, and assistance enrolling in Medi-Cal and CalFresh. This program also serves homebound adults in our community by supplying specially designed frozen meals as a nutritious supplement.
