Emergency shelter. Meals Area agency referral. Our "new" 40 bed house was built in 2010.
Temporary Shelter for up to 90 days
What kind of shelter are we:
We are a transitional shelter. Our aim is to create a living area where the residents can take time out from surviving and focus on getting their lives in order in a safe, drug and alcohol free environment so they can move on to being productive and happy members of society. Various types of counseling, both individually and as a group, are available.
ECHO's goal is to help re-integrate our homeless into the community. Individuals may stay up to 90 days at the shelter. Residents are required to actively pursue housing and employment goals, as well as education, job training and drug and alcohol treatment as needed. The shelter manager assesses their needs and coordinates with county agencies to provide support. Residents are not charged a fee for their time at the shelter. Instead, they are required to open a savings account and contribute to it during their stay. These savings provide them with a security deposit and first month's rent for their own residence when they leave the shelter
Hours to apply:
Although the shelter is open 24/7, the preferred time to take applicants is between 9:00am and 6:00pm. However, exceptions will be made depending on circumstances. If possible, call before showing up to insure there is space available.
Who do we take:
Although it is always at the discretion of the house manager, if there is space available, we generally take anyone who shows up sober, is not a registered sex offender, is a resident of Calvert County, and has not used up his previous stay allowance.
Number of beds: 20 for men, 20 for women and children.
Length of stay:
Up to 90 days. At times the House Manager may add up to an additional 30 days. After one year, a person is eligible for an additional 90 day stay. A person can not stay more than three times up to 90 days each.
